I wonder why…
1. the government gives 60,000 yen per day to all the restaurants/bars (which observe the state of emergency rules to close at 8 p.m. ), regardless of the size and the income level of the establishments while giving no funds to other businesses including food industries. The amount of the payment should be decided based on the income level as in the U.K. where the 80% of income was guaranteed to all the households during the lockdown.
2. the state of emergency was lifted (in a timely manner just before the arrival of “hanami(flower-viewing)” season) despite the increase in the number of infections in Tokyo and its neighboring prefectures only because of the fact that hospitals are not overwhelmed with COVID patients.
3. International organizations such as IOC and WHO aren’t functioning properly in this pandemic crisis. I was particularly astonished when the IOC entered into a partnership with the Chinese Olympic committee to buy and provide vaccines for people taking part in the upcoming games in Tokyo. IOC President Thomas Bach said “We are grateful for this offer, which is in the true Olympic spirit of solidarity.”
