Ultra-MAGA Republican（超MAGA共和党員）

11月の中間選挙が近づく中、バイデン大統領が共和党のトランプ支持層をUltra-MAGA Republican（超MAGA共和党員）と呼んだことが波紋を広げています。MAGAとはトランプ氏の標語Make America Great Againの略です。

　大統領選挙結果を受け入れず、連邦議会を襲ったトランプ氏支援者を、バイデン氏は民主主義を否定するものと断罪します。　加えて、政策面でも合理的な銃規制にも人工中絶にも反対する彼らの主張は、アメリカの大多数の意見ではないと強く非難しています。バイデン氏はトランプ支持層につき、Semi-fascism（準ファシズム）という言葉さえ使い、メディアを驚かせました。

　バイデン氏はこれまで国の統合という観点から、トランプ支持者に対しても慎重な言葉遣いで対応していただけに、Ultra-MAGA Republicanという言葉を使った攻撃は、選挙戦略の計算された転換だと思われます。

　これらのバイデン氏の発言に対して、トランプ氏は「彼こそ国家の敵だ」と逆襲し、共和党議員たちも、対話を拒否して国の分断を図るものとして、反発しています。中間選挙に向かって、両党の間でこれから繰り広げられる応酬を考えると、アメリカ分断の暗部を見る思いがします。
